MARIJUANA LAWS JUST CREATES CRIMINALS

In the article it says that New York City spends about $75 million every year on arresting people for marijuana possession, but what people don't know is that the state decriminalized this offence more than 30 years ago. And possession of marijuana is now the number one arrest category in New York.

A big majority of the people getting arrested are people who live in a community of color. And one fact that stood out to me was that 85% of the people arrested for possession of marijuana is black and Latino. And I think this is going to become a bigger problem than what it is now because in the article it says that more than 50,000 people in 2011 were arrested that year for small amounts of marijuana.

In my opinion I think that it’s a shame that they have to spend some much money arresting those people that year. And I also think that the criminals should pay all of that money back to New York.

Did this article make you think about how many arrest will happen in another year like 2013 in New York? What did this article make you think about? What did it make you wonder? These questions can be asked more than once but really think about them now!

  1. You demonstrate that you read the beginning of the article, but you seemed to miss the main point which is to argue that the government should stop arresting people for possession because it is a waste of money. Basically, the author wants cops to ignore marijuana possession like they would ignore jaywalking. Do you agree with this main point?

Also, When you ask questions, they should be questions that you yourself would like to get answers to. The questions should not be addressed to your readers. The way you write these just makes it look like you are trying to get the post over and done with.
